What'cha Reading?

Right now I've got quite a few going.  I often wiml have books in different genres going at the same time so according to my mood, I've always got something to read!  The novel I'm just about finished is
So Brave, Young and Handsome by Leif Enger.  Justin read Enger's first book, Peace Like a River, and really loved it.  I was quick to follow and enjoyed it just as much.  Our most recent trip to Oregon, Justin purchased Enger's second book in an adoreable little book shop on Bainbridge Island in Seattle.  He couldn't stop talking about it.  Although I am not crazy about the title, I am about the book.  Enger's writing is really rich and beautiful and draws you in quickly.  We both would easily laugh aloud while reading.  I find it very different from his first book, but his writing style is just wonderful in both.

I just recently picked up A Wrinkle In Time by Madeleine L'Engle at the library.  Addison, Eli and I went to stock up on books for when Sammy gets here.  (Nursing time will be reading time for me and Addison).  I have never read this book and so picked it up for myself.
I just started in last night and am halfway through.  Now of course, it is considered jouvenile lit. but still, what I'm saying is, I like it.  I like jouv. lit anyway and really love a bit of fantasy every now and then if it's really well done and of course, L'Engle is well known for her talent.  A fun, quick read that I will tuck away in my mind for when Addison is older.

Non-fiction lately has been consumed with pregnancy and parenting books.  Actually, I've only read one new pregnancy book, Birthing From Within.  When pregnant with Addison, I couldn't get enough and read new books the entire 10 months (yes, it was practically 10 months with him!)  This time around, a friend gave me this one to borrow and a few of my midwives had suggested it as well.  I skimmed it - not really me.  I remember one useful thing from it.  But I just received The Shaping of a Christian Family in the mail from AbeBooks.  Have you discovered them yet?  If not,  you have to check the site out if you don't mind purchasing used books.  They have the most amazing prices and I usually find what I'm looking for.
Anyway, I haven't started this yet.  In college I sead a lot of Elizabeth Elliot.  Many people find her too old fashioned or uptight, but I have always really enjoyed her insight and wisdom.  This book is supposed to more a story of her childhood and how she grew up instilled with the Christian values I desire in my kids,  than a "do it like this" parenting book.  I am eating up parenting books right now as Mr. A is giving us a run for our money when it comes to his emotions and attitude.  I've read some I value and will continue to read over and over and others that I know won't work for us or do not align with how we want to raise our children.

So, that's my list, along with my beloved magazines that I anxiously await every month.  Addison's interest in books is ever blossoming and growing which Justin and I just love.  Maybe soon I'll start a children's book list.  We are discovering some great ones!
