A party for the one year old

Addison is now one year old, and to celebrate this accomplishment his mother and I invited one of his friends and a whole bunch of ours to pack our little apartment and to eat pizza and cake and play with toy trucks and trains. Our apartment was about as full as we've ever had it, with a number of friends squeezing in for dinner, and then several more of our neighbors stopping by when it came time for ice cream and cake.

It was a night of a number of firsts:

It was the first time Kellie and I threw a birthday party for a kid of ours [this feels strange to me - like we're adults or something].

The first time Addison helped open his own presents [he still doesn't get it and wasn't too much help, but with some prompting he pulled a bit of paper off].

The first time he had cake [seemed to like it].

Of course, his first birthday party.

And he even took his first steps - two steps on his way to try and grab his favorite toy ball, a feat he has yet to repeat.

Our little boy is one year old, and we are extremely grateful for him. And all of you family and friends - you that have surrounded us, loving Addison and helping us get through all this - we're extremely grateful for you too. Please stick around. We are going to want and need you around for many years yet to come.
