Leaping

So today is Leap Day - an extra day in our life that only comes every 4 years.  How did you spend it?  I spent it not in too significant a way except for the hours of holding and comforting and caring for my sick girl.  I'll take it.  This Leap Day crept up on my in our week of sickness, but in the coming years I'd love to do something quirky and fun on that day that my kids would look forward to.  I only have possibly 3 more with Addison before he moves on.

Tonight during dinner I turned Leap Year into a math lesson with Addison.  We went around the table and using his roasted vegetables, used them to take each family member's age and add 4 years to it to see how old they'd be next Leap Year.  (He then had to eat the vegetables - except for the 36 and 37 that stood for Justin and me :)

Addison will be 9, Eliana 6, Samuel 5, Mommy 36 and Daddy 37.  We then wrote down things we hoped to have accomplished before the next Feb. 29th.   These were not long thought over.  They were not to be taken too very seriously, but just the first things that popped into your head.  (Addison did all of them except Justin and I's)  Here's how it all shook down:

Addison age 9:  will have taken some Karate lessons; will read by himself; will not be scared of the dark
Eliana age 6:  will still play with cars; will still play w/princesses; will have taken ballet or gymnastics
Samuel age 5:  will be playing with legos; will sit at the bench for supper; will love superheroes; will be a good artist; will like race cars (do you think addison was reflecting on himself at age 5?)
Kellie age 36:  will run 5ks regularly; will manage her house with joy; will have gone on a 10 year anniversary trip (hint, hint)
Justin age 37:  will have eaten a fish he caught himself; will have run 2 competitive road races; will have written something that would be published somewhere (perhaps just a letter to the editor)
Our family in 4 years:  will have a dog.

So, we'll check back in next February 29, 2016!
