One Thousand...

I often read Ann Voskamp's blog.  Her mission has been to list out one thousand gifts – watching, recording, and naming all the sweet little gifts that God bestows each and every day that we so often pass by without a second thought. She has desired to see and savor every moment. It is a list of one thousand gifts. Not what she wants. But what she has.

I have struggled in the past with being content.  Worry, fear, discontentment find their way into my mind and heart, especially during the times when I'm not relying on God as my source of joy.  Since meeting Justin, he has helped in this area by encouraging the beautiful practice of listing our gifts - things we are thankful for.  This, without fail, lifts our eyes off of ourself and our worries and what we don't have and onto God, the giver of all good and perfect gifts.

So - my list begins - more of a weekly list now instead of an every.once.in.a.while list.  With my eyes turned up and out, I will choose gratitude.

1.  Samuel's giggle when I hold him close and whisper in his ear.
2.  Justin's heart to serve me.
3.  Addison's sweet spirit.
4.  Coffee, made just right.
5.  The smell of coffee beans.
6.  Eli's hugs.
7.  This house.
8.  PJs
9.  Honest Friends.
10.  Books - especially ones I can't stop thinking about - Ones I'm sad to finish.
