Justin and I were both pretty exhausted and just looked at each other thinking, what to do for an HOUR before bed? It kept threatening rain outside and we just didn't know what to do. Just then, the clouds parted and the sun shown through. It was time to create the Frank Family Icrecream Porch! I had had this idea all summer, but we hadn't done it yet. I LOVE getting icrecream in the summertime, but it is just getting soooo expensive to go out and do it with the kids.
We told Addison we had a surprise. He had to get his shoes on and grab some money (.50). Justin loaded them into the car van and told them I would meet them there. They drove around the block while I got ready. We have huge windows in our house and two off the porch opening right into the kitchen. I got the cones, ice cream and sprinkles ready, some fun kid music and an alligator hat (I couldn't find anything else to put on). When they pulled in, they came up to the porch and I greeted them through the window. They thought it was hilarious. Addison paid and was given his cone, complete with rainbow sprinkles and Eli was given her bottle of milk (which she was just as excited about.) I thanked them for visiting the ice cream porch and closed the window, pulling off the hat and running through the back door, around to the porch.
It was great. I love kid's imaginations. Addison kept asking me why I wore the alligator hat and I kept pretending I didn't know what he was talking about. "But mom, you really was the ice cream lady, right?" "What? I missed the ice cream lady?" "But no, mom, it was you right?" :) I could see the doubt floating around in his head and it made me laugh.
While we ate on the porch, Justin mowed the lawn and found us our next adventure...
I don't think Addison had ever seen a wild frog and know Eli hadn't. She kept barking at it. We watched over it for quite sometime while Justin finished the lawn. It ended up being loads of entertainment we hadn't planned on and helped us pass the time just wonderfully; bed time actually came 45 minutes later than normal. Ahh, summers!
